What types of pediatric dermatology services are available at NY Skin RX?

NY Skin RX provides pediatric dermatology services for a variety of skin conditions specific to children, including diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions; surgical removal of molluscum, warts, cysts and other small lumps in the skin and skin biopsies. The most common conditions we treat are:

Contact (Allergic) Dermatitis

Based on your child’s age, overall health, and medical history, Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz and Manning will evaluate the extent of the condition and determine a specific treatment for your child. They will discuss the potential for your child’s tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies, and anticipated resolution of the condition according to your preference. Most importantly, they will work with you to identify the cause of the contact dermatitis to avoid potential future reactions.

Atopic Dermatitis or Eczema

Symptoms will differ for each child and may include: redness, swelling and dry, scaly skin; small bumps that open and weep when scratched. Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz and Manning will create a personalized treatment plan for your child to reduce the itching and irritation, moisturize the areas, and prevent infection.

Seborrheic Dermatitis  and Cradle Cap

The cause of Seborrheic dermatitis has not yet been determined, and although treatments are effective in clearing the condition, this rash has the potential to recur. Drs. Debra Wattenberg, Ilyse Lefkowicz and Jamie Manning will determine the proper treatment for your child which may include the use of a medicated shampoo, cream or lotion.

Diaper Dermatitis (Diaper Rash)

There are several potential major causes of diaper dermatitis, including irritation, allergy and infection. Based on the cause, Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz and Manning will establish a medical treatment program, which may include: a medicated prescription or moisture-barrier diaper cream and anti-inflammatory creams to be used in conjunction with cleansing and reduction of exposure to establish a maintenance program.

Plantar Warts

Although certain types of warts may disappear on their own, Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz or Manning may recommend a range of treatments, depending on how long warts have persisted, the type and location of the wart, and the severity of the condition. At NY Skin RX, we treat warts with all of the options including freezing with liquid nitrogen,  electrical current, laser surgery, and immunotherapy as well as topical salicylic and lactic acid.

Birthmarks

Birthmarks, moles and nevi come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Most of these do not require treatment but it is a good idea to have Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz and Manning evaluate the lesion to make that decision. At NY Skin Rx we often photograph the lesion to allow for easier comparison in the future.

Molluscum Contagiosum

Similar to warts, molluscum contagiosum is a viral disease of the skin. The condition usually presents with multiple small pink or skin-colored bumps. The poxvirus is contained within the bumps and is contagious through openings in the skin, often resulting in clusters of the lesions. The lifespan of the virus can extend over a period of time, and can clear without treatment however many parents prefer to have them removed before they spread.

Hives

Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz and Manning will try to determine the cause of your child’s hives and formulate a customized treatment plan to alleviate the symptoms. The treatment will be aimed at helping your child with the symptoms.

If your child experiences any of the described pediatric dermatology symptoms or conditions schedule an appointment with Drs. Wattenberg, Lefkowicz or  Manning at NY Skin RX.
