A cyst develops underneath the surface layer of your skin and usually is filled partially or completely with fluid. Skin cysts typically grow slowly, are painless, and feel smooth to the touch when rolled under the skin. A ruptured cyst, however, can cause both inflammation and pain.
If there is a concern that your cyst is malignant, a biopsy can be performed by your Manhattan dermatologist. Otherwise, cysts can be treated by having them drained (inserting a needle into the cavity to drain the fluid) or through surgery, which entails surgically removing the cyst.
