7 Tips for Preparing for your Injectable Appointment

preparing for injectable procedureNew York City and Manhattan, NY

Preparing for Botox or filler may seem as easy as booking the appointment, but there are some important steps you can take beforehand to protect your well-being, and ensure your desired outcome. Aside from choosing a board-certified dermatologist in Manhattan for your injectable treatment, here are a few other tips on how to prepare. Following these tips will help you look and feel your best, and maintain your safety.

  1. Check your vitamins and supplements

Vitamin E is one that you should hold off on taking until after your procedure. Other supplements, such as ginseng, Gingko Biloba, fish oil, among some others, actually can thin the blood, which isn’t ideal before any cosmetic treatment, even injectables.

  1. Put exercising on hold

It is best not to exercise the day before receiving an injectable like Restylane®, Juvederm® Ultra, or Volbella® in Manhattan. Even light exercising, such as yoga, Pilates, or a jog may increase your risk of bruising, or your overall results.

  1. Take some before selfies

There’s no shame in the selfie game! Take some before shots of your face so that you have something to compare with your results. Your dermatologist may snap some as well, with your permission of course, but having your own pictures to look at may be helpful to gauge your results.

  1. If you booze, you bruise

Alcohol and cosmetic treatments don’t mix. Avoid a night out on the town, or consuming any amount of alcohol the night before your treatment. Alcohol dilates blood vessels and makes bruising more likely. While mild bruising may be expected following an injectable treatment, alcohol could worsen any potential bruising.

  1. Don’t overdo it

With the Botox®, we mean. While it is understandable that you want to get your money’s worth, and definitely get rid of those wrinkles, too much injectable can give you an unnatural look and make your face look overdone. Receiving an injectable by an experienced, board-certified dermatologist is recommended because they have experience in providing this type of treatment, and can make the best recommendation for your procedure. This brings us to our next point.

  1. Express your goals, but avoid being pushy

Let your dermatologist know what you want. Would you like to get rid of those crow’s feet around your eyes? What about those smile lines? You may think that Botox, for example, would work for all facial wrinkles, but that isn’t the case. Your doctor will know which product is best to help you achieve your desired results. Let the doctor know your goals, and they will suggest the best filler for each area of the face.

  1. Cool as ice

Keep some ice packs handy and ready to apply to your treatment area once you get home. Your doctor may provide you with one to use in-office immediately following your treatment, but be sure to apply ice again once you arrive home. It helps reduce the chance of swelling and bruising.
